We had a day off today so we decided to go poke around in a nearby county for fossils. We found some interesting rock formations and lots of flaky shale but no fossils. We also found seams of some kind of mineral. Really neat crystal forms. Not real big, but light pink/peach colored. If we can find out what it is, we will let you know. Well, in our quest for the elusive fossils, we stumbled onto a well used fishing spot. Someone had recently cleaned a mess of crappie. We both looked at each other and took off running to the truck. Michelle said she had some poles at her house. We came back with our poles and minnows about the time they started feeding. Fish were jumping and splashing ALL over the river! It didn't take long for us to start pulling them in, one right after another. We only fished for an hour and a half or so, but we caught several nice bass. We started the day Rockhounds and ended it as FISH HOUNDS!!!!

Glad to see you guys had another chance to have fun in the great outdoors!! I still have high hopes that next time the 'catch of the day' will be a trilobite!! Just one burning question... who cleans the fish?? ;)

The best thing is...NOBODY..cleans the fish!!! We toss those babies right back in the river. The rivers around here are not especially clean. We would probably glow or something if we ate the fish we caught out of there. We just enjoy catching them. I hope we actually catch the trilobytes next time...although catching the bass was almost as much fun!
