
The fossils here were located in the layers of shale. To get to them, we had to use our hammers and chisels. We would walk around and surface collect until we saw a thick piece ripe for the splitting. It was like opening presents all day!

Michelle was very happy with this piece. It contained the tracks of an ancient horseshoe crab. (The long pairs of dashes.)

These were beautifully detailed fern fronds.

Prescott had assumed the typical surface collecting posture.
