Sometimes the wood was just
laying on top, but other times it was buried in the creek sediment.
Here is a 30 million year
old piece fresh from the dirt.
Water cuts deep paths in
the soft sandy earth in this area exposing creepy finger-like roots and
dark hollowed out crevices along the banks. The thick canopy of trees
overhead creates a dark mysterious atmosphere underneath.
Michelle found a piece of
wood in a clay seam in the bank. She got her mattock and went in for
more.
