Mississippi Rerun 5

petrified wood

As we walked the road up the hillside, we found lots of pieces of the wood. Some of them were sticking out of the sides of the washes.

We just love this Mississippi Petrified Wood!

promising ravine

Although we were “hot” on the trail of the Big Find, it was time to head back to the house and get ready to return to Alabama. At least we had a good idea on places to start digging the next time we come back. We decided to take an alternate route back down the hillside. Which ended up being a BIG mistake. Upon emerging from the trail, we realized that we were lost ...AGAIN!!! This time it was much more serious because we were separated from our ride, water, and cell phones. We wandered aimlessly around in the heat for about 30 minutes.

buzzards

Eventually, we caught a glimpse of the fence crossing we had gone through earlier. As we headed in that direction, we noticed a batch of buzzards circling over our heads. At almost the same time we both said, “I wonder if that’s for us?”. Nothing like circling buzzards to put a little pep in your step! Our extra hustle paid off when we rounded the corner and spotted our ride. We guzzled all our water and took off for the house.

After refreshing showers, we put on our new matching t-shirts that Lynn had bought for us and posed for a quick picture before heading home.

This trip was a jam-packed 24 hours of tons of fun with friends and rocks!
