Sand Castles and Shark's Teeth

good sign

We had been wanting to go to the beach for a while but our schedules had not permitted us to do so until recently. We had been planning a trip to the Gulf over Fall Break when Monte discovered Rick Jacquot's article in the September 2006 issue of Rock and Gem magazine. It was about finding Phosphate Fossils in the Coastal Plain of South Carolina. Our plans suddenly changed! Thanks, Rick, for inspiring us! We couldn't pass up a beach trip where we could dig fossils, too!!

Michelle's nephew, Allen, decided he wanted to come along and experience a Rocks and Lace Adventure for himself. We broke him in right with a hot meal from ....Waffle House, of course!

We enjoyed our meal as we mulled over Rick's article and discussed our itinerary for the next two days.

Through a fantastic electrical storm and heavy rains, we finally made it to our sleeping quarters. (Notice Michelle's electric blanket controller by her feet. That thing is like her American Express Card! She NEVER leaves home without it!) Our accommodations were provided courtesy of KOA Campgrounds. Thanks KOA!!
